About

We want to create a space for individuals & groups to come "serve, empower, and minister to clients in order to prevent and end hunger and homelessness through advocacy, education, housing, and coordination of services.”

to become a volunteer:

1. Read about the volunteer opportunities & requirements to choose which opportunity you would like to help with.

2. Fill out the Volunteer Application (please read thoroughly, fill out, & sign).

3. The Volunteer Coordinator will contact you with more instructions and schedule you to come in to volunteer.

*Groups & Churches: Please be sure each individual that is volunteering fills out a volunteer application. Choose a name for your group and have each individual put the same group name on the application.

Father's Table

Volunteer reports to: Kitchen Manager

 

Father’s Table currently serves three meals a day, six days a week, and breakfast and dinner on Sunday. Volunteers will assist the various kitchen managers with preparing and or serving meals to the shelter residents and the public.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Pantry organization

  • Food preparation

  • Serving meals

  • Cleaning

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Respect and maintain confidentiality of Open Door Ministries volunteers, partners, and donors’

  • Be courteous and personable when dealing with the public

  • Organizational skills

  • Basic kitchen knowledge

  • Detailed-oriented

Schedule:

  • Daily serving opportunities are available Monday-Friday for breakfast (8:30 am to 9:30 am), lunch (12:30 pm to 1:30 pm), and dinner (6:00 pm to 7:00 pm)

  • Saturday for brunch (11am-1pm) and dinner (6-8). Sunday for breakfast (9-10) and dinner (6-7).

  • The Father’s Table serves the public every day and every meal EXCEPT Sunday lunches.

  • Please arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of whichever meal you choose to assist with.

Ways to donate

Food Pantry

Volunteer reports to: Food Pantry Coordinator

 

Food pantry volunteers will assist the food pantry coordinator in the maintenance of the food pantry as well as assisting in providing individuals and families with a generous supply of food including meat, fresh vegetables, and nonperishable items. Volunteers will help to assemble the food boxes which contain five days’ worth of food. Boxes are assembled and distributed based on the size of the household.

 

Role Opportunities:

1. organize food pantry
2. prep food boxes for clients
3. prep/hand out boxes

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Stocking and zoning shelves

  • Assembling food boxes

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Respect and maintain confidentiality of Open Door Ministries volunteers, partners, and donors

  • Be courteous and respectful when dealing with the public

  • Be energetic and positive

  • Able to lift upwards of 30 lbs.

  • Able to work independently if need be

  • Be efficient and detailed-oriented

Schedule

  • Volunteers are needed Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays during the pantry’s operating hours of 10am to 2pm

  • You may choose to volunteer for a portion of the pantry’s operating hours

  • If you are scheduled to help during the beginning of the pantry’s operating hours, 10 am, please arrive at 9:45am
