High Point, NC – In the span of its lifetime, the largest global Catholic fraternal service organization has been able to help serve millions of people. The Knights of Columbus take their service seriously and compassionately.
In High Point, one of the biggest beneficiaries of the Knights’ services is the Arthur Cassell Memorial Transitional House. There, they serve those who served the country.

Hundreds of veterans in need of help transitioning through life after the service have lived at ACTH. Some stay until they are completely ready. Some leave when they feel like they can make it on their own.
Samantha Hamrick, the clinical case manager for ACTH, is one of the witnesses to the Knights’ impact on veterans under the shelter. She said, "Their generosity and service-driven mission help foster connection, stability, and a sense of belonging as veterans rebuild their lives."
If there’s a need for a bed, the team at ACTH does their best to offer one. They do their best to offer resources and basic supplies. The Knights of Columbus Triad Chapter 2282 helps supply ACTH based on what’s needed.
The Knights have been working with ACTH since October 2024. In that short amount of time, Knights member Mitch Miller says the relationship between the Knights and ACTH is constantly getting better.

“It should be an American thing to give back to our veterans,” Miller said. He comes from a family full of veterans, although he never served himself. He has served as a Knight since 1996. Miller originally looked for any organizations to help post-Hurricane Helene. There had been a coat drive organized to help the survivors of the natural disaster, and Miller wanted to keep the good work going. He was connected to ACTH during this search.
“More interaction with a smaller group like this,” Miller said, “I think helps make our
volunteer efforts even more rewarding.”
Arthur Cassell Memorial Transitional House has received coat drive donations while also being in communication with Knights of Columbus, like Miller, for other items. Some items are needed. Some are pleasant surprises. Typically, donations come in the form of food, full dinner spreads, raised funds, clothing, and resources for our nation’s heroes.

“The Knights of Columbus have supported ACTH veterans through meals, gifts, and meaningful community events that foster connection and belonging,” ACTH Clinical Director Kali Franklin said. “Their kindness and hands-on presence help ensure our veterans feel supported, cared for, and deeply valued.”
Donations can be as simple as a coat drive, fundraiser, or as intimate as having a real conversation with the veterans at ACTH. Asking what’s needed is always key to making a bigger impact.
