$8 Million Dollars?
In the last few months Open Door Ministries has been in the news A LOT! Thanks to our wonderful partnerships with Fox 8, WFMY 2, WXII 12, The HP Enterprise, and others we have had wonderful stories and great events!
For the last two years ODM, along with our collaborative community partners, has been working tirelessly to develop funding and plans for a much-needed day center and shelter to serve those needing our support. Our current facility was designed to house 12-15 men, we now house up to 90. Our kitchen was designed to prepare 100 meals a day, we are now preparing up to 400 a day. In addition, the new facility will allow us to work together with a number of collaborating agencies to provide a comprehensive approach to address our guest’s needs. The Federal, State, County, and City have allocated a combined $8 million for our use in construction of our new facility. We are grateful for this partnership with our community and despite a few setbacks in locating the appropriate property, we continue to be optimistic about securing property and creating this much needed center for our community.
THE DILEMMA: While it may seem that we are receiving significant funding, none of the current allocations provide funds for our current day to day needs. Many of our donors have suggested that they want to support the day center when we begin fundraising, but in the meantime, we are in critical need of funding to help continue the amazing services we provide for the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless.
The numbers tell the story:
63 clients provided housing each day, many of whom are veterans.
12,700 meals served to the hungry in our community last month.
Over 200 families and 700 individuals provided food and assistance.
