Local Couple Gives Hope with New Housing Opportunity

This past March, the shelter staff of Open Door Ministries was approached by a High Point native couple who were looking to give back to the community. The couple had a family home that they wanted to see go to a good cause, housing the homeless. Their family house was located right in the heart of High Point, giving former residents access to affordable housing while also staying close to bus lines and local businesses. With the partnership of the Men’s Shelter and this local couple, Open Door Ministries was able to house four individual single men. This house gives residents a comfortable living situation, while also making them feel comfortable knowing they have support of other residents and the shelter staff. Staff can provide ongoing case management for the residents to reduce any potential issues that may arise for each individual.

With the help of the City of High Point, Open Door Ministries was able to provide both a deposit and first month’s rent for each resident moving in. This gave the residents the ability to save up money for future monthly payments. For many of the residents, this is a steppingstone to permanent independent housing. Men come to the shelter of Open Door Ministries looking to get their lives back together from many of the barriers that they have faced.

The staff of Open Door Ministries focuses on each one’s strengths, not weaknesses, to move them forward in the right direction. Two new residents will be moving into this home during the upcoming months. Open Door Ministries is grateful for this High Point couple who believed in providing individuals a second chance to rebuild and enjoy what the world has to offer. Open Door Ministries is looking to build a great relationship with these landlords as many more homeless men will benefit from this house.
